SSD Slot 32GB mSATA in my lapop

Today, I just found out that there's 32 GB mSATA in my lapop while I was checking out the manual.

My question is that why is it limited to 32 GB? If it's mSATA then shouldn't the form factor for 128 GB mSATA SSD be the same?

Hi,

The 32GB mSATA drive is a drive used as a cache system together with the hard drive to make everything much faster. It works with intel rapid storage technology drivers.

First, you would need to check if the slot is actually present in your device as models which did not come with mSATA SSD are missing the physical slot.

On page 64 of the service manual, you can see where the slot is.

the best idea for you if you want an SSD is to replace the 2.5" HDD with a 2.5" SATA3 SSD such as the Samsung 860 Evo or similar. On page 48 of the service manual, you can see how to replace the drive.

I have already replaced my existing hard drive (HDD) with an SSD.

I wanted to use this 32 GB SSD slot to install a lightweight Linux OS. Can I use this for this purpose?

If not then can I use it my existing SSD to store cache on 32 GB SSD in this slot which means I guess storing e.g. (Page Files etc.)?

No the IRST disk caching technology will only work with a mechanical drive not an SSD, You can't accelerate an SSD with an mSSD. Yes you could put Linux on the 32 gig mSSD but make sure you place the bootloader (e,g, Grub) on the main drive as the 32 gig will not be bootable.
