Hi

I have purchased a HP Pavilion Power Laptop 15-CB001NI and want to look into upgrading to a M.2 SSD drive.

My main question is what Drives are supported by HP as i will purchase this drive and use it as OS Drive and the Secondary drive which came in the laptop will be used for my Storage.

I read the Product documentation and my configuration if i go wiht a 128 GB SSD should be inline with the upgrade path for my Specific model yet it does not detail any brands or go into deeper technical specifications as to what type of M.2 drive is officially supported.

Please can someone at HP inform me of a working drive that i can look into purcahsing for the Laptop or alternativly a doucment that has more technical specifications as i do not want to risk purchasing a drive that will not function.

Regards

Roland

The thing people have a hard time understanding is that HP does not support hardware upgrades it merely tolerates and recognizes the consumer's right to do them. So HP is not going to provide you a list of 3rd party hardware to buy. That is why there is the Forum. We are volunteer users who have more or less experience with working on and upgrading laptops and monitor these boards regularly so we find out what is working and not working for upgraders.

Here is the Service Manual:

Manual

The only thing HP can pretty well assure will work is if you buy from the HP Parts Store one of the M.2 SSD kits listed in the Manual by HP Part number.

See page 2 of the Manual.

Also see page 43. Here is what you see with back cover removed:

This is the 128 gig M.2 PCIe 2280 form factor disk HP will be glad to sell you:

128 GB, PCIe 912322-007

Its in stock and they get $143 for it. You can get the same drive (our experience tells us it is a Samsung PM961) on amazon.com for a bit less.

People ask all the time about other disks like the Samsung Evo 960 or Pro but unfortunately we have seen lots of reports that people install these and they do not work.

I have personally installed a PM961 in your Model series HP laptop and it worked fine.

Post back with any other questions and please accept as solution if this is the information you needed.

Thank you the feedback. I will most likely purchase one of these drives within the next few days from HP or a local supplier that has stock
