HP Pavilion X360 Convertible 14-dy1xxx

Hello Community Members,

I have an HP Pavilion X360 Convertible 14-dy1xxx with 16GB RAM and ROM of 1TB capacity (NVMe Samsung SSD).

I would like to upgrade the storage with Samsung 990 pro w/Heatsink SSD 4TB PCIe, Gen 4 M.22280.

However, I am not sure of whether this 4TB SSD will be compatible with my laptop and would like to ascertain that before I order for the SSD.

Please advise.

Thanks

Pato

Hi:

The Samsung 990 Pro would not fit with a heat sink.

The SSD your notebook has is already enclosed in a thermal cover.

See chapter 5, page 35 of the service manual for the illustration of how the SSD is installed.

Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com)

The 990 Pro without a heatsink would fit and work just fine in the factory thermal cover but it will not run at its maximum advertised read/write speeds from your notebook's PCIe Gen 3 SSD slot.

This table has the maximum transfer speeds each PCIe slot generation can provide:

Your machine won't run PCIe Gen 4 speed. But it is OK. Please to be sure you get a single sided drive otherwise too thick, won't physically fit.
