Hp envy 15 j104
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I have a HP Envy 15 j104, and I just bought a Samsung EVO mSata SSD to add it on my laptop, togheter with the old HHD.

But, in the BIOS, I don’t have the possibility to change the Sata mode in AHCI, and so I cannot  select the SSD in the “boot order menu”.  It allows me only to create a RAID volume.

I read something about that, and it seems that my computer supports the AHCI mode, as in the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers I have the AHCI standard controller.

How can I change the AHCI in the BIOS?

How can I use the HHD and the SSD together? Is there another way?

I know that in this community there is almost the same question, but It has no answer

Thanks in advance 👍🏼

Hi:

There is no way to change the drive controller setting.  That is for sure.

How about disconnecting the HDD and seeing if you can install W10 that way on the mSata drive.

Then connect the HDD back up if you can install and run W10 on the mSata drive.

What I'm afraid of is that when you put the HDD back in, windows will boot from the HDD.

On some models, the mSata SSD cannot be used as a boot drive, such as in my HP 350 G1 which has the same Intel 8th gen chipset and 4th gen core processor series as your model.

it can only be used as a storage drive.

I just swapped out the HDD and put a 2.5" SATA III SSD in mine.

If you cannot install W10 and run it with the HDD removed, then your notebook must have the same drawback as mine.
