Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello. I've got a laptop OMEN  - 15-ek0002nc with 1TB M.2 drive of type WD SN730-SDBPNTY-1T00-1006. The laptop has two M.2 sockets to allow extending storage space. If I add another drive of the same type it allows extension of volume space. Unfortunately currently it is not possible to by the same drive (WD SN730-SDBPNTY-1T00-1006).

My question is: will it work if I use WD Red700-WDS100T1R0C instead? It seems to be of closest parameters...

Thanks.

Yes.

The WD Red SN700 NVMe M.2 series is compatible with your laptop.

Thank you Erico,  may be I was not exact in the question.

Will be my laptop able to "join" the spaces of both drives into one volume as it would with two drives of exactly same type?

Thank you very much.

I agree. You were not specific enough.

I will have to say no, unless you are going to install a server OS.

I can't think of a  current laptop that allows RAID, except those that use the Intel IRST.

Dear Erico,

thanks again.

As I am sure I saw some service manual stating the OMEN laptop has two NVMe SSD slots and is capable to run them in RAID-0 if both drives are of the same model, so I asked my question before I buy drive of slightly different kind.

But, now I was trying to find mentioned Service manual myself again... but I did not succeed. Regardless it I realized that my model 15-ek0002nc probably event does NOT have the second NVMe slot ...

Am I correct? Or the 15-ek0002nc has second NVMe slot?

If it has not, should you rather mention this fact than to agree I was not exact in the origin question? 🙂

Thank you.

According to the HP documentation at the hyperlink below, it does have two SSD NVMe slots..

The Maintenance & Service guide does say there is support for RAID 0, so you were correct!

Hello Erico,

yesterday I opened my laptop to check if the second M.2 is physically there. And yes it is... So I already ordered WD Red NVMe 1T ssd... so I'll see 🙂

Anyway thank you especially for links to docs related to my model. I could not find them 🙂

I hope to try to extend my disk volume in one week. I'll post my experience. I expect it could be a bit challenging to extend it as RAID and not to loose anything 🙂

So far,

Zbynek

Setting up the drives as RAID 0 does not appear to be that difficult. Backup the hard drive before you begin to an external NAS or other USB or network storage solution.
