Hi, I'm thinking of purchasing a HP Pavilion 16-in. Laptop, AMD Ryzen 5 8540U - 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD from costco and I will immediately upgrade to a larger SSD. I know the specs say max 1tb but can I put in a 2 or 4tb drive? When I go to the crucial website and select 16-ag0000 it says I can go to 4tb. Can anyone confirm? thanks!

Hi:
Unfortunately, no one can confirm that unless they installed one in the same model notebook and reported it worked.
There are no programs you can use to determine how large a capacity SSD you can install in the NVMe SSD slot.
Theoretically, the sky's the limit as long as the drive is single-sided so it fits in the slot.
I don't see any reason why a 4 TB drive wouldn't work.
HP offered NVMe drives up to 1 TB in the model series according to chapter 1 of the service manual, but that is just what they offered, not the maximum capacity supported.
See chapter 3.
