Yes, you can install it.

Your service manual (page 44) explains how to install an M.2 SATA SSD.

Yes and yes. Open the Service door on the bottom and install it in the slot marked here in red:

Not understanding the question. Which old and new versions? M.2 SATA SSDs are pretty standard devices. You should be able to install about any 2280 M.2 SATA SSD you can find on the market.

New generation:

read speed: 560 MB/s

write speed;520 MB/s

Old generation:

read speed:560 MB/s

write speed:530 MB/s

Not sure why new gen has a slightly lower write speed, but price is lower than old gen.
