I am on Windows 10 v1709 (Build - 16299.125). I recently noticed that my screen wouldn't rotate on flipping the display, I couldn't play games (like Asphalt 😎 in tablet mode, the keyboard and touchpad remained active on tent or tablet mode.
I thought of looking into the device manager, and I couldn't find the previously present Sensor catagory anymore. I also downloaded SensorExplorer from Microsoft Store and it says "Cannot find any sensors", "Number of sensors: 0".
In desperation, I have wiped all the partitions, and reinstalled Windows 10 freshly. Also all my drivers are up-to-date. The issue is still present. I don't find any better way to "reset" my laptop.
Any sort of help in this matter will be highly useful.

Thank you for keeping me posted.
I recommend you get the computer checked at HP center and I am positive they will fix the issue and also they will reinstall Windows which will return the recovery partition as well.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Welcome to the HP Forums!
Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.
I reviewed your post and I understand that the autorotate option is not working on your computer.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
Awesome job on diagnosing the issue correctly and performing smart troubleshooting before posting your question on HP forums. Kudos to you on that score.
In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.
- When was the last time the computer was working fine?
- Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
Meanwhile, I recommend you follow the below steps to resolve this issue.
Press Win + R -> type 'regedit' and enter
Registry editor will open up.
Goto path -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AutoRotation
Check the value of Enable file if it is 0 rotation will be OFF if 1 rotation will be ON.
Restart and Auto rotation will work.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

I am so glad that someone responded lol
My laptop was working fine about three weeks ago.
No hardware change, but I had to dual boot Ubuntu my college assignments. Before making this post I had cleanly wiped it out (both the Ubuntu partition as well as the GRUB bootloader files from the EFI partition).
Regarding editing the registry, I have already tried it out. The auto-rotate option DOES APPEAR on action center, but it can't be clicked (always greyed out no matter whether in laptop, tent or tablet mode), neither does the screen rotate on flipping the display.
I have also contacted Microsoft customer care for the second time on phone. The assured me that it is a hardware issue. I will be taking the laptop to an HP service center today.
By the way, when I asked an HP customer care executive on phone that whether I can install Windows 10 Home from an ISO (because my Recovery wasn't working from some reason) I got a pathetic reply that my Windows install may not remain genuine anymore. Don't they know that the activation key resides in the hardware?

Moreover I don't think they will make the Recovery partition again. Sure reinstalling Windows does get the F11 option working, but that is from the original WinRE.wim image placed under the "Windows RE tools" partition during windows install. The HP Recovery is different.
I will keep updating on what happened. Thanks.
