Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Is there a service manual available which explains how to open this notebook?

I bought this machine 3 yrs ago for my son to use for school; it just has 2Gb RAM and a slow HDD. I would like to upgrade to 4Gb and an SSD, but I am stumped as to how to open this beast.  Perhaps a service manual will help. I can't see any hidden screws which I have missed and there are no rubber feet to hide any. Have removed about 10 screws, the fake tray and unclipped all around, but it seems to be held down in the middle somewhere - maybe under some keys? The rear cover seems to hold all the components instead of coming away like most other HP's. I have taken apart and upgraded other laptops, but this one seems to be made differently.

Any help appreciated. Thx

Hi:

I looked at the service manual for the 14-g000 model series, and it shows an access cover, which your model doesn't have.

Then I looked at the 15-g100 service manual (which would be pretty much the 15.5" display version of your model).

This manual describes what is more reflective of what you are experiencing trying to take the thing apart.

So, have a look at this one and hopefully, you will be able to figure out what else has to come apart.

You're very welcome.

Yes, that was the manual I looked at first from the 14-g000 model series, but the illustration showed a removable service cover, so I didn't think it was the right manual.

Yes, that manual for the 14-g000 series was more appropriate. Everything except the removable service cover seems to be identical. That means to upgrade the RAM I need to remove the motherboard, but the illustrations are great so I don't think I'll have a prob. Already have the SSD and RAM waiting to go in.

One last question: how do I disconnect the big keyboard connector. Does the white part lift up like the other smaller connectors? I tried pushing it off but does not seem to work that way.

Cheers.

Hi:

Unfortunately, that I do not know.
