Hello.

I have a Notebook HP Spectre x360 with BIOS AMI F38 (8.12.22), Intel Core i7-8705G CPU @ 3.10GHz and Radeon RX VEGA M GL Graphics card,  and Windows 11 pro (24H2)

Since one of the last driver updates from HP (over Windows update) and Intel (over Intel driver and support assistant) i have the Windows error: ESIF(8.5.10103.7263) TYPE: ERROR MODULE: DPTF TIME 15011 ms

I hope somebody may help me because the NB is freezing many times now on boot.

Hi @Robi69,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

 Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I Understand that your concern, don’t worry I will help you with this .

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  1. When exactly does the freeze happen?
    • Before the Windows login screen?
    • During the spinning dots?
    • Right after logging in?
  2. Is the freeze total or partial?
    • Does the system completely lock up (no mouse/keyboard response)?
  3. Do you see the ESIF / DPTF error in:
    • Event Viewer → Windows Logs → System?
    • And is it repeating multiple times per boot?
  4. Does Safe Mode boot normally without freezing?

The ESIF / DPTF error typically points to a power or thermal management conflict between firmware, power management, and drivers

Things you can try right away

These are safe first steps and often help stabilize the system:

1. Disable Intel DPTF temporarily (for testing)

This helps confirm whether DPTF is the root cause.

  1. Open Device Manager
  2. Expand System devices
  3. Disable (one by one, for testing):
    • Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework
    • Intel DPTF Manager
  4. Reboot and see if freezes improve

This won’t damage your system worst case, the CPU just won’t dynamically throttle as efficiently.

2. Disable Fast Startup (very important)

Fast Startup often triggers boot freezes with DPTF issues.

  1. Control Panel → Power Options
  2. Choose What the power buttons do
  3. Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
  4. Uncheck Fast Startup
  5. Shut down completely and power on again

4. Check BIOS settings (if available)

Some Spectre models allow limited thermal options:

  • Look for anything related to:
    • “Thermal Profile”
    • “Fan always on”
    • “Modern Standby”

If you changed anything recently, try reverting to defaults.

5. Temporary workaround: clean boot

This helps rule out third-party services conflicting with DPTF:

  • Run msconfig
  • Disable all non-Microsoft services
  • Reboot and test stability

I hope this helps.

Hi Deep World

To your questions:

1. The freeze happen in all 3 cases.

2. The freeze is total

3. I see it in event viewer and is repeating multiple times, mostly after some minutes. Maybe if the CPU is heat up

4. In safe ode is same

I'm thinking the problem is the last Intel DTPF-update

I will try your suggestions. Many Thanks for your reply.

I tried all your suggestions. Everything had no effect.
Can i reinstall the Thermal Framework from HP or Intel who is fit?
And if some - how to install?
