I want to start using it again but noticed that it is very slow. Even though, I have reset this laptop to factory setting. I have tried to remove McAfee antivirus too but still same issue. Hi @Chirag_batra,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Your HP Pavilion X360 is slow due to a combination of factors, such as the lower-end processor (Intel Pentium N4200), limited RAM (4GB), and possible heavy background processes. Here's how you can optimize performance.

Increase Virtual Memory (Page File Size)

  • Steps:
    1. Open Control Panel > System and Security > System.
    2. Click Advanced system settings > Settings under Performance.
    3. Go to the Advanced tab > Virtual memory > Change.
    4. Uncheck "Automatically manage paging file size."
    5. Select your drive, choose Custom size, and set Initial size to 1.5 times your RAM (around 6000MB) and Maximum size to 3 times your RAM (around 12000MB).
    6. Click Set > OK.

Disable Startup Programs

  • Steps:
    1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
    2. Go to the Startup tab.
    3. Disable unnecessary programs by right-clicking and selecting Disable.

Update Drivers

  • Steps:
    1. Open Device Manager.
    2. Expand Display adapters, Storage controllers, and any devices marked with a warning sign.
    3. Right-click and choose Update driver.
  • Alternatively, use the HP Support Assistant to update drivers automatically.

Uninstall Bloatware

  • Steps:
    1. Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & Features.
    2. Uninstall unnecessary software (like pre-installed apps or trial programs).

Optimize Storage

  • Steps:
    1. Open Settings > System > Storage.
    2. Turn on Storage Sense to automatically free up space.
    3. Run Disk Cleanup to remove temporary files.

Upgrade RAM (if possible)

  • Your laptop has 4GB of DDR3 RAM, which is limiting. Upgrading to 8GB will provide significant improvements. Check your device’s specifications to confirm if it supports additional RAM.

Check for Malware

  • Use Windows Defender or a lightweight antivirus to scan for malware after removing McAfee. You can also use Malwarebytes for an additional scan.

Adjust Visual Effects

  • Steps:
    1. Press Windows + R, type sysdm.cpl, and press Enter.
    2. Go to the Advanced tab and click Settings under Performance.
    3. Select Adjust for best performance, or choose Custom and uncheck unnecessary visual effects.

Check Disk Health

  • Steps:
    1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
    2. Type chkdsk /f and press Enter to scan for disk issues.

Consider Upgrading to SSD

  • Though you have a 931GB storage drive, it's unclear if it's an SSD. If it's a traditional HDD, consider upgrading to an SSD for a significant performance boost.

These steps should help improve your laptop's performance.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Changing your virtual memory will improve a lot..i also use norton utilities ulitmate that tweaks the performance of your laptop like a champ, especially the ram cleaner which makes the laptop blazing fast ..i still use the old software program before they changed it this  year which is still miles better because they excluded the ram cleaner with the new version..instead you might check out  the software "Wise Memory Optimizer" which is free.

You might also check out "advanced system care" from iobit which also tweaks the performance of your laptop significantly.
