Hi:
The M.2 slot you see in the manual (chapter 5, page 36) is where you will install the M.2 SATA SSD.
That will be empty.
The 64 GB eMMC drive is unidentifiable to most folks.
It is an integral part of the motherboard.
Yes, once you get W11 installed on the new SSD, format the 64 GB eMMC drive and just use it for storage or nothing.

Your notebook has one memory slot.
You can replace the 4 GB DDR4-2400 memory chip with an 8 GB DDR4-2400 memory chip.
Your notebook has support for a M.2 SATA SSD so you can install one of those and have more internal storage than the 64 GB eMMC drive provides.
If you install Windows on the M.2 SATA SSD, the drive performance will be considerably better than it is on the 64 GB flash memory drive. Then you can format the 64 GB eMMC drive and use that for some extra storage if needed.
Suggested memory chip:
Crucial 8GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM | CT8G4SFRA32A | Crucial UK
Suggested M.2 SATA SSD:
This is the 500 GB model. You can go higher or lower in storage capacity if you want.
Below is the link to the service manual:
Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com)
Note: NVMe SSD's are not supported in the notebooks with the 64 GB eMMC drives although the service manual makes no mention of that.

Thanks for your advice and looking through the Maintenance & Service Guide it looks very straight forward in 1) just having to remove the bottom cover, 2) remove the battery, which should then allow free access to the 2 components that I need access too .
I'm thinking of upgrading the storage by installing a WD Blue SA510 1tb M.2 SATA SSD. now you say my notebook has support for this extra memory chip so there is a 2nd slot? leaving the 64 GB eMMC drive in place or will the 64 GB drive have to be removed to make way for the new 1TB Drive.?
The other upgrade is to replace the 4 GB DDR4-2400 memory with a 8GB DDR4-2400 Memory chip.
How do I transfer the Windows 11 and any other programmes over? do I do a back up to a separate plug in hard drive first before I start replacing the new parts?
Do you know if there is anything on youtube that might help me view the work required to be carried out?
Appreciate your help and if able to answer my further questions

You're very welcome.
You don't need to remove the 64 GB drive to install the M.2 SSD.
The M.2 slot is located elsewhere on the motherboard.
Memory...that is correct, but I found this discussion where someone installed a 16 GB memory chip in the notebook model series with the same processor and 64 GB drive and reported that worked fine. So, you may want to do that instead.

Installing Windows/transferring programs and files:
You have a few options:
1. You can make a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.
Here is an info link for how to use the utility. You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the recovery media with.
HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Customer Support
You can download the software from the Microsoft Store.
HP Cloud Recovery Tool - Microsoft Store Apps
Then you can reinstall any programs and files you had installed after you got the PC.
If you use the cloud recovery tool, make sure it gives you the option to select the drive you want to use the recovery media on. If it does not give you any options, don't use this method because it will install on the 64 GB eMMC drive.
2. You can clone the existing 64 GB eMMC drive's contents to the 1 TB drive using cloning software, such as the Macrium Reflect Home software. You can use the trial version for 30 days.
With the cloning procedure you have to set up the program to clone from a smaller capacity drive to a larger one or it will just clone up to 64 GB of the new drive's space wasting all of the other available space.
Cloning a disk using Macrium Reflect 8 (youtube.com)
3. You can make bootable W11 installation flash drive with the media creation tool (2nd option) at the link below and clean install W11 on the new drive.
Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com)
After W11 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page and reinstall any programs and files you installed after you purchased the PC.

Hi I have not yet tackled the exercise yet as I spoke to curys who carry out such upgrades at a fixed fee and you can supply your own parts. Well I went in there today but they don't like upgrading the Ram so that was a waste of time and I will have to take the back cover off to review having looked at similar on youtube it looks ok to do and parts available on Amazon..
Now obviously from the manual it identifies where the 4GB chip is and easy to change that which I may upgrade to the 16GB as HP reference that on their spares page but obviously more expensive than Amazon. the M2 slot which has the 64GB emmc drive in is also recognisable but I can see no reference in the manual about another M2 slot to fit say the WD blue 500GB Sata SSD. wILL IT BE OBVIOUS WHEN i OPEN UP THE LAPTOP AND WILL i HAVE TO REMOVE THE MOTHERBOARD TO FIT IT?
I do appreciate your help and advice it encourages me to tackle the work in hand. If say I fit the WD Blue 500GB will I need to move windows 11 from the 64GB eMMC drive?
Regards
Brian

I have the new 16GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM & THE INTEGRAL INSSD512GB M2 SATA 111 delivered today and have made a bootable USB following instructions so ready to go tomorrow.
My understanding is that I insert the bootable USB drive into the laptop and turn on the laptop and press the F11 key so that it boots the computer which downloads win 11.
Questions 1.) having already fitted the 500GB into the M2 slot will the screen ask me which drive I want to load windows to?
2.) Assuming it will give me 2 options 1 being that of the 64GB eMMC Drive or 2 the new 512GB drive?
3.) Selecting the 512GB drive will it load windows 11 to that drive and also make a partition?
4.) Having loaded Win 11 from the USB and assuming it made a partition will the remainder of the drive be usable and not be wasted?
5.)Assuming that the laptop is now booted and running Win 11, how do I the clear and at what point the old 64GB eMMC drive (which has remained on the motherboard?)

I am assuming you either made a plain W11 installation flash drive with the Microsoft media creation tool or you made a bootable USB recovery drive with the HP cloud recovery tool, correct?
If not, you must do either one of those before installing the M.2 SSD.
Then you plug the USB installation flash drive in the USB port.
Turn on or restart the PC. Immediately press/tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.
Select the F90 boot options menu and from that, select the USB flash drive with W11 on it or the Cloud recovery tool flash drive, as applicable, and press the Enter key.
With the plain W11 installer you will be asked what drive you want to install Windows on.
The cloud recovery tool media may not give you that option and if it doesn't, do not use that method or it will just factory reset the eMMC drive.
Either tool will automatically partition and format the drive as needed.
You do not need to intervene.
Once you have confirmed that the notebook is booting from the M.2 SSD you can right click on the 64 GB eMMC drive, select 'Format" and do the quick format option to erase the drive and use it for storage or not use it at all.
