@Telmar, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Smart Adapter feature failed" message typically indicates that your laptop is not recognizing the power adapter as an original HP Smart AC adapter, which can lead to reduced performance or battery charging issues. Since you've recently replaced the charger with an official HP spare, let's go through a few steps to troubleshoot and resolve this:
Check Adapter and Connection
- Ensure the adapter is firmly connected to both the laptop and the wall outlet.
- Inspect the adapter cable and connector for any signs of damage or wear.
- Try plugging the adapter into a different wall outlet.
Update BIOS and Drivers
Outdated BIOS or chipset drivers can cause power recognition issues.
- Visit the official HP driver page for your model:
Official HP® Support
Download and install the latest:
- BIOS update
- Chipset drivers
- HP Power Management drivers
Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics
- Use the built-in diagnostics to check the power system:
- Press Esc repeatedly at startup > Press F2 for diagnostics.
- Run the Power Test and note any error codes.
Alternatively, use the online tool:
HP PC Hardware Diagnostics | HP® Support
Reset the Embedded Controller (EC)
This can help reset power-related firmware.
- Shut down the laptop.
- Unplug the adapter.
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the adapter and power on.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
