Built in keyboard spacebar does not work while the fn key is pressed. When the fn key is not pressed the spacebar works fine.

Yes, usually that is how it is designed. However, do you have any special key icons/designs on your space bar?

 

As per the specifications, I do not see any special character. You may refer to this USER GUIDE-SPECIAL KEY on page 14.
