So I have a Pavilion 15 with a backlit keyboard but noticed that the spacebar is the only key not lit. Pretty sure it is supposed to be. Only had a notebook a couple months is this something I should contact support for?

Well upon working with technical support they have authorized me to send it in for repair? So was wondering that too. Most backlit keyboards I have had did have all the keys iluminated. Funny that tech support did not realize this?

Checked:  Loaner Envy 17t (consumer grade notebook) provides lighted keyboard -- space bar does not light.

This is normal behavior.

Yes, I guess this is what HP keyboards do. They light all keys except for spacebar? I certainly question why they do not light the spacebar? But its obviously by design not a flaw. I just questioned it, because I have owned Dell's and Apple Mac's and all have every key lighted. Can't figure out how HP could have saved much not lighting one key? If you search the forums as I did, others have asked the same question and nobody at HP seems to be able to correctly answer this. Even technical support seemed to think it was a problem. I wonder how many send their laptops in thinking their keyboard is defective only to get it back with the same result?

Thanks for posting back.

The answer is:  HP backlit keyboard does not light the space bar.

If the feature is something that HP (as a company) wants to change, no doubt we will see that in future models.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

  • Is this first time that your noticing the spacebar key is not glowing?
  • Did you make any changes to the settings of your PC prior to the issue?
  • When was the last time it worked fine?

After reading your post, I did go through the Product specifications of your product and found that you have Full-size island-style backlit keyboard with a numeric keypad installed on the PC.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
