I want to buy a 500 gig SSD to replace the 128 gig (?) That came in the laptop.
What do I need to know about the specs when I buy the SSD?

Here is the Maintenance and Service Guide for the laptop. In Chapter 5, Removal and replacement procedures for Customer Self-Repair parts, Page 44, is a list of the compatible M.2 SSD's. I like Samsung SSD's because they seem to work best with HP BIOS'es.
