I have a Spectre X2 which is about 2.5 years old. Recently, the plastic screen cover is starting to detach from the unit frame. It appears that the battery pack in the unit is starting to swell and pushing against the screen. It doesn't look like there is a battery recall for this unit but it is very disconcerting and I can foresee that the battery will either keep swelling and break the screen or it will leak and cause the system to fail.

It would be helpful if we had the exact model number of the laptop but yes deformation of the chassis of the laptop is usually a swelling battery. It needs to be removed and replaced as soon as possible because it will continue to swell once it starts. Contrary to common belief it is not a fire or explosion hazard unless the casing is compromised which is all the more reason to get it out of the laptop. Post back with the exact model number and we can provide removal instructions and I will also try escalation to HP and they might offer some help out of warranty.
