My SD card reader will read but will not write or Format all brand SD cards. Machines indicate it was "write protect". Yes I did slide the SD card to enable write. Still will not copy/paste/format or delete
Tried the diskpart and the REGEDIT solution didn't work.
Anybody has a better solution?

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,
Please try few steps recommended below.
Check the SD card's exterior.
Is there a small switch on one side? Changing the positioning should turn write protection off and let you change the contents.
Insert the memory stick into the computer & check its properties
Go to My Computer and under Devices with Removable Storage look for your card reader; right-click on it and click Properties. In the pop-up box, sometimes there's an option to Remove write-protection. Change the status of this option and try again.
Use command line
Remove your memory stick from the drive. Click Start > Run...
In the box type regedit and press OK
A new window will appear. Go to:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies
If you can't locate StorageDevicePolicies then you will need to create this folder; right-click on Control and click on New > Key; name this StorageDevicePolicies; right-click on the new folder you created called StorageDevicePolicies and click New > DWORD Value.
Name this WriteProtect
Double-click on Write Protect and change the Value Data to 0 and then click OK
Close the Registry Editor and insert the memory stick into your computer
Let me know if this works!
Have a great day!

Thanks for the reply.
1. The write protect switch on the SD card is on write
2. On the properties of the SD card reader. Under what tab would I find the write protection option? I don't see it after going through all the tabs
3. On the REGEDIT my computer does not display the "\StorageDevicePolicies". I do have the "storage" and Storage management" subfolders .

I recommend you try the below steps and check if it helps.
-
Try a different memory card of the same type in the same slot. If the different memory card works, the card reader is good and the original memory card should be replaced.
-
Make sure that the amount of data you attempted to store has not exceeded the capacity of the card.
-
Inspect the ends of the memory cards for dirt or material closing a hole or spoiling a metal contact. Clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth and small amounts of isopropyl alcohol. Replace the memory card if necessary.
-
Make sure the memory card is supported by the card reader.
-
Make sure the memory card is fully inserted into the slot.
-
Turn off the computer and disconnect the power cord. Then shine a flashlight into the empty card reader slot to see if any pins inside are bent. Straighten any bent pins with the end of a mechanical pencil. Have the computer serviced if a pin is bent and is touching another pin.
If you continue facing the issue, then uninstall the card reader driver from device manager and then download and install it from the below link.

My card reader is reading the SD card with no problem. My only problem is wriitng, deleting or formatting it would always indicate it is "write protect" even after I've done all the aboved suggestion.
You did suggest to uninstall the card reader driver. I would like to try it. So when I go to device manager I willuninstall the device? There's no option to uninstall the driver only. Is that right?
