Hello to All:

I posted one of the messages above complaining about the extreme heat, and lack of HP response.  Then, I had stopped following this forum thread, but I just saw the thread again in my email, so I'm posting again with an update.

I'm just posting to add information to help any users who are having the problem currently, or users who find this forum thread sometime before HP finally fixes the problem for good.

It seems that currently my Spectre X360 is no longer overheating.  My guess is the BIOS updates fixed the problem on my unit, as I hadn't done anything else to solve the problem.

My laptop is set to automatically download and apply all updates from HP, including BIOS updates.  In messages above, people mentioned that there was a BIOS update in January 2016, but I also got an automatic BIOS update just a few days ago in mid-February 2016.  It's possible that one of these fixed the problem.

When I was originally seeking a solution months ago, I was not willing to send my laptop back to HP for repair or replacement, as several people above had tried repair/replacement and apparently that didn't work at that time.

So, I chose a "head in the sand" solution: I purchased one of those Avantek laptop fans to place under my laptop, and I didn't care whether the fan cooled it down or not (but the fan did seem to cool it down a little), and then I just stopped paying attention to whether the unit was hot or not hot.  I just didn't care anymore whether it was hot or not, because intended to use it and I was unwilling to send it back.

Therefore, I don't truly know when the unit stopped getting hot, I never really noticed until this thread brought it to my attention.

But, I'm offering some possible hope here that if your unit is currently overheating, definitely try the most recent BIOS updates and maybe that is a solution that's working at least for some units.

Several things have happened since my original posts. Getting an answer from HP has not been one of them though. Yet after reading someone's post about the problem being manifested only when charging, I began to wonder if that had been my interpretation as well. After several days of sitting my laptop on my lap (when not charging) I have began to wonder if: a) I got used to the heat since it doesn't burn as before? b) my original impression was when charging - memory bluring at this point? c) is it OK for it burn while charging - don't we laptop users often ran out of charge and plug in to finish working next to a wall or something where we can't place the computer on a table? d) do other brands heat as much? e) are we just suppose to conform with this situation and lack of official answers?

Hi,

Mine heats only when charging too. After some debuging I noticed that when charging the computer, disk usage raises to 99% and  it start to heat -> fans spin faster than my head when drunk. I really don't understand what could possibly cause that, but that's the case. You can look if you got the same issue opening the task manager and monitoring the disk.
Now i've been charging it when shut down and using with battery only.

I'm sending mine in next week, I'll let you guys know when I get it back.

Hi - update on my i7 X360 overheating. I was advised by HP to download Speedfan to monitor temperatures and to contact them with the results. However. they said they dont regard a problem unless the temp goes over 90 degrees C (doesnt water boil at 100??).

Anyway mine regularly goes to 84 degrees which I regard as very hot ( I have screen shots of speedfan) but clearly HP dont consider this as hot (I do!)

Ive had about a dozen laptops over 25 years (Sony, Dell, Rock, Ergo. Asus etc etc) and none has ever run as hot as the HP.

Hi All,

heating issue is getting worst and worst.. HP ,Australia took my laptop twice for repair but  overheating issue is still not resolved.. they changed the CPU Fan but still top lfet corner is getting very hot within few minutes of start up and it is even worst when on charge ..

This is really shocking experience when HP took it twice for repair, their engineer mentioned repair comment that it is all tested and working fine.. I really do not undestand what they fixed.. really shame on HP suport

I bought this latest and costly laptop to use latest technology and make my life ease but it is not even usable

If anyone has got any working solution, please reply

Thanks!

Ok guys I've got some [good] news for you all.

The reason for high disk usage, which causes the heating, is SKYPE! The only way to manage this problem is to uninstall it. Nevertheless, it's not simple because Skype is a built-in app on Windows 10.

Here is what you need to do to uninstall Skype, Get-skype and Skype Cam for good:

- Type "Powershell" on search bar.

- Right-click "Run as administrator"

- Type "Get-AppxPackage *skypeapp* | Remove-AppxPackage" and press Enter.

Vola! Worked on my i7-version. Ever since I uninstalled Skype, my Spectre x360 has been spectacular.

Here's more specific instruction
