Hello all,
This is my first post to the community, so I hope that it is received well.
In 2015 I purchased an HP Spectre X360 with the intention of it lasting past my 4 years of college.
Yesterday while browsing the web on my HP Spectre, the PC suddenly shut off and emitted a burning smell, almost like a chemical/electrical burn. After this, my laptop would not power back on, and no light comes on (even the charging indicator). After doing some research, I have discovered that many Spectres have experienced the same issue, and the culprit is most likely a motherboard burnout.
I am wondering what my options are. My warranty expired ~2 years ago. From what I read, repairs of similar problems can be up to 80% of the cost of a new PC, making it almost worth it to pick up a new PC. I love my Spectre, and have been brand loyal to HP over my past 3 laptops (2 previous Pavillions), but as a college kid it is hard to justify shelling out another $1200-1500 for a PC to not even last me until the end of my degree.
Has anyone had any experience with HP repairs, 3rd party repairs, self-repairs, or buying a new PC in similar situations? Should I get another Spctre (if I need a new a PC) if others are having the same issue? Any immediate help is appreciated as I start classes very soon and need a PC

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
