I required a new battery. I purchased the correct model based on HP parts search (928372-856) and the first one never calibrated correctly, so I replaced it again. This new battery appeared to be working just fine and calibrated successfully. Now, a month or two later, my HP support assistant is reporting "battery: replace." When I run the diagnostics I get the following:
"The battery is reporting a failure and needs to be replaced as soon as possible. Your battery may be covered by your HP Warranty. Please contact HP. Q0EJL1-93EC7Q-MFPW3G-C08123"
Do I really need a new battery, again, or can this error be caused by a "third party" battery not being an HP product (since HP doesn't sell these batteries at all)? Can I ignore as long as the battery appears to be operating okay?

Is the battery that you sourced a Genuine HP part numbered battery or one that uses the Generic battery part number?
The vendor, if reputable, should after only a few months be amenable to your requesting an RMA for the battery. That would entail supplying a new battery to replace the one with the issue.

It was marked with the part number provided on the up website for this part. Since HP doesn’t sell this part, though, I have no idea how to tell if this battery is from an approved distributor/supplier or if that even exists 🤷🏼.

What does "It was marked with the part number provided on the up website for this part." mean?
It sounds as if you bought a "compatible" battery. They are known to not always work as expected.
HP does not sell parts for laptop that have been out of the market for five years or more.
Use the HP part number + genuine as search terms. Ensure that you purchase a battery that has a one year warranty.
That battery part number you provided in the initial post is not the correct one. It should be 928372-855.
