Thanks again to everyone who responded to my post. I did order a pen to use with this computer, but I can't help but think that my computer was incomplete. I was never given a reason from HP why this unit did not come with a pen  and literally every review I have read and watched have all mentioned that it is standard equipment with this computer. I love using this computer so far, but I am very dissapointed that it did not come with the pen and that I had to spend an extra $60.00 to have the complete experience. Other than that this is a nice computer so far.

Hi, I was wondering were you able to get a pen that works with this model? I just bought this, Spectre x360 15 in i7-8th generation, locally yesterday. Had to get back to the store to exchange for a different product since it had a dent. When opening the second one, surprise surprise no pen, although the pen was one of the selling points at the store.  Customer support confirmed pen is now not included (could someone at HP explain why?), however they recommend buying a $60 hp pen whose reviews are really not good and customers complaining it doesn't work with spectre x360 and on top of that HP doesn't refund their money. I feel terribly deceived and dissapointed by HP and the store. I am now spending time trying to find a pen that might not work with this device. I was aware of people complaining not being able to find replacement for the charger, but I thought I will give it a chance anyway now I am wondering if I should have chosen the Lenovo Yoga instead.

The decision to include (or not include) the pen or other accessories with the purchase of a computer of other device is an internal HP decision -- those of us active in the community can speculate; we cannot not provide any official response.

Whether you decide to purchase a stylus -- assuming one is available for your specific computer model -- is a personal decision.  While I do not often use the stylus (mentioned in earlier posts in this thread), I think it is a nice feature.  The stylus appears to work quite well and does provide an interesting "new" type of interface to the touchscreen experience.

Not sure about a "Yoga" computer -- probably a nice machine.  All the major computer manufacturers are building decent products these days.  Brand choice is another one of those personal decisions based on loyalty, product features, reliability, support from both the manufacturer and from any forum communities dedicated to the product lines, product availability (depends on region), and a variety of other factors that companies spend a lot of money to study.

Unfortunately I too was tricked into purchasing this laptop. At first I thought this would be the perfect laptop. However, I bought it for the sole purpose of editing and graphic design and after Best Buy having a pen hooked up to the Spectre and then being told the pen isn't compatible by HP I am regreting purchasing the laptop. I feel like the branding and advertising was extremely deceptive for the product to not come with the stylist. Considering weather they will take the computer back at BB to get a Lenova or other Brand.

@JoeNOLA

Which of the Spectes do you have? Post Product name/number and we can help find the correct pen- if it supports Active pen/stylus.
Easiest way to get that info- minimize all open windows so you can see desktop screen. Next hold the fn key and press esc key.

Commentary

You have perhaps been misled.  There are subtle differences between models / builds.

If you like,

  • Ask the store from which you purchased the computer for details on the computer used as the demonstration model.  Check the model number and the type of display installed on the system.

  • Return the computer to the place of purchase and ask for a refund / options under the refund policy.

  • Return the computer to the place of purchase - ask to purchase an appropriate model that is listed in the Active Pen document (below).

  • Purchase a supported model from HP.com - example:

The only thing that is MISLEADING is HP's advertisement.  The computer did not come with a pen and I have been told by HP staff that the computer is imcompatable with a stylus pen.

And yet some how they also had this lap top hooked up to an HP stylist in a effort to further mislead customers into purchasing an over priced laptop with no pen interface.
