Spectre x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

About a week ago my Wifes Spectre x360 stopped working, no power LED and it wont turn on. I did the normal things like the power button reset, tested the powersuppy to confirm voltage was being delivered via a multimeter (all ok) but still no luck.

Called HP support and they said that the motherboard has died and delivered us a quote that said it was $1400+ (AUS) to fix!! This is the 2nd time it has happened in the 3.5yrs she has owned this laptop. Getting 18 months between motherboard failures doesn't really seem acceptable to me from a "premium" machine. Browsing the forums it seems like this is an EXTREMELY common issue with these machines. Has anybody had any luck getting HP to acknowledge the inherent problems with this and do anything about it to keep the customer happy?

Needless to say there is no way i am paying over $1400 to fix it when there is a high probability it will just keep happening, a brand new unit from another brand can be had for much less money.

Appreciate any and all feedback.

@TimboF,

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

Hello, can you please help me too?  My HP spectre x360 also died in under 2 years and I was quoted $700 to repair it!  This is unacceptable when it's obvious from these message boards that there is a known issue with the motherboard in these laptops.  I shouldn't have to pay over half the original cost of the laptop to repair a faulty/poorly made product.  Please help.  Thanks.

I wouldn't waste my time even talking to HP. It gets escalated and then finally you get told the same old thing - "sorry its out of warranty, can we offer you a new one for a ridiculous price which will probably have the same issue again?".

No thanks.

I ended up getting the motherboard replaced by a generic electronics repair person for about 1/3 of the price HP quoted as we needed the data off of it. As soon as i can get rid of this machine the better in my opinion.
