I took heart after reading your post....then I removed the keyboard cover and the  battery to find the elusive hard-drive plug-in socket....but there was none there either!

My Pavilion Split x2 Version is 13-p113cl....I wonder if that makes a difference?

All upgrades can void your warranty and should be done by an authorized HP service provider ....... that being said..

Found it very easy to access the under body panel of the keyboard to install the HDD Hardware Kit.

1. Detach the screen from the keyboard.

2. Remove the screws also the two located under the rubber feet close to the hinge. Use a card like rewards card or old     credit card lighty use thise around the edge of the panel to get those plastic clips to loosen up before removing the panel. This prevents you from breaking a clip or scratching the cover.

3. From there you will need to remove your battery (always a good practice when dealing with any upgrades) from there you have access to the HDMI card which also where the HDD connector is located (basically under the battery)

4. HDD Kit if you need to order can be found here http://h20141.www2.hp.com/Hpparts/Search_Results.aspx?mscssid=7760BEEB2CDC47F5943D7A98BDB7F79F&Searc...

5. Reference to your manual how to remove the HDD Kit for installation.

As for the RAM upgrade this is just one slot so you need to purchase one stick of 8G (use your user guide to see the list of recommended RAM). Much like the panel under the keyboard use the same steps to access the motherboard other side of the screen.

Be sure to take your time when removing the panels from either component found that people can force it up and end up breaking those clips after removing the screws. The best simple tool that can be use is a credit card or gift card etc.

Does part number 736884-001 work for adding another hard drive in the Split-x2 or do I have to use the other part number?

I have had the same issue for several months.  I returned it to Micro Center, and got a replacement.  Still doing the same thing. I hate this machine. Taking it back again tomorrow.   And to put the icing on the cake. If i set it on my bed, it's soo top heavy that it flips backwards! NO BUY!  Has anyone else participated in the HP survey about this machine? I agreed, I answered 5 questions negatively and then I was told I could participate in the survey and I couldn't get my promised Amazon gift certificate!

OK, I have read that Best Buy i5 version of the Split x2 model 13-g110dx cannot have ram upgraded and any i5 13-g models are the same.  I just purchased a Best Buy i5 model 13-f010dx.  Does anyone know if this i5 13-f model can have the ram upgraded?  I would rather not open it to find out if someone here knows.

Thanks.

If it is their "ultra book" then no, support told me because they made the ultra book a RCH thinner ended up soldering the ram in place.... pretty stupid on hp's part.... but maybe it is a new model and they woke up their brains while building....

I just realized that I could probably just install CPU-Z and look in the SPD tab.  This tab shows the manufacturer and specs of each ram module.  I remember looking at CPU-Z with my nephews Asus Z54C which had 4GB soldered to the board and a 4GB module instaled in the slot.  CPU-Z recognized all info of the module and was mostly blank for the soldered ram.  I think that this will save me the trouble of opening up the back panel if I just run CPU-Z and check SPD.  If the manufacturer and most other info is blank, then I will probably return the 13-f010dx to Best Buy.  If I see a manufacturer, then the ram is most likely not soldered and I will keep the HP Split i5 and upgrade the ram and msata SSD (I have 2 lying around, 1 c400 245GB and 1 m500 240gb, not sure which to use).  I will let you guys know when I get home.  This should be a good indicator.

I checked last night.  The model 13-f010dx with the i5-4202y I got from Best Buy appears to have the ram soldered in.  I opened CPU-Z and the memory only shows capacity with all other info blank.  This can only mean it is soldered in.  I will be returning it.  I have been looking at offerings from Samsung but the  ATIV Smart PC Pro is only available in 11.6" and the ATIV Q has not been released due to patent issues.  I thnk those Samsung models have soldered ram too so I guess I would have to just order one with 8GB if they come out with a 13.3" version of the Smart PC or if they ever release the ATIV Q.

@groovygal6 I haven't had no such issue with my unit and was bought from Micro Center too in Denver. Found that the base has a counter weight close to the hard drive area. If this has been removed then yes your unit will not be balanced. As for the hp survey I have it here in my inbox and clearly states it is no longer avaible due to the high volume of people signing up was discontinued for North America.
