Your user's guide (page 2) indicates your model has an M.2 port that supports NVMe SSDs. If your NVMe is an NVMe M.2 SSD 2280, it should work.
Page 41 explains how to install an M.2 SSD and p.45 shows that the M.2 port is located between the RAM module and cooling fan.

See the Expansion Options in the Intel specs below of your Intel i3 7100U processor, which indicate the CPU supports PCIe gen 3.0. This means that your M.2 port fully supports a PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD gen 3.

No one can tell you for sure if your specific model runs an M.2 NVMe gen 3x4 in the full 3x4 mode, unless you try.
I dug around the forum but didn't see any confirmed reports that your model series supported an M.2 NVMe 3.0x4 to its fullest extent.
I am now thinking that you already ran an M.2 NVMe 3x4 and found it didn't run at the 3x4 speed. Am I correct? My quick search revealed that some of HP models run M.2 NVMe SSDs (gen 3x4) only in 3x2 mode. There're quite a few posts but below are just some of them:
NVME SSD runs on PCIe 3.0 x2 & not on PCIe 3.0 x24 - HP Support Community - 7694832
Nvme running on PCIe 3.0 x2 isntead of x4 - HP Support Community - 7735325
Solved: How to make NVMe SSD run at PCIe x4?? - HP Support Community - 6832386
I hope your NVMe SSD will run at the 3x4 speed but if you already found it didn't, it's unfortunate, as you cannot change the situation.
