HP Notebook - 15-db0052na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hey, I'm currently looking to upgrade my harddrive to an m.2ssd and i have one spotted on amazon but i was looking to see if my notebook would support it, i checked the questions area and someone said to ask for a storage compatibility list? the ssd i was looking at was Western Digital 1TB M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3 NVMe up to 3500 MB/s read speed, If someone could send me the list or tell me if this is supported that'd be great

Here is the Service Manual:

Manual

Your laptop has the lower end AMD A4 processor. So you do not have "dual storage". In other words, there is no M.2 slot. A SATA M.2 could be fitted with an adapter in place of the 2.5 inch SATA drive, but no point in that as a 2.5 inch SATA SSD performs the same and requires no additional hardware to mount. So, bottom line get a 2.5 inch SATA SSD to replace the hard drive and that will be the best storage performance you can get.

Post back with any more questions and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.

Ive opened it up to upgrade the ram and the slot is there tho?

Hi, @LexxyBoii

I'm surprised the M.2 slot is there.

You are not mistaking the slot for the SATA connector the optional DVD drive connects to?

They look similar.

Here is a video that shows the location of where the M.2 SSD goes in your notebook's model series...

If it is indeed the M.2 slot, then you can only install a SATA M.2 SSD in the slot, not NVMe.

NVMe SSD's are only supported in the 15-Db0xxx model series that have the AMD Ryzen processors.

Yes, the slot looks like it would support a NVMe SSD. but it only supports SATA ones.

And in some cases there is a slot but its not functional. Yes as @Paul_Tikkanen points out, best case it takes a SATA M.2. In no event will an NVME work.

So better off with an ssd drive rather than m.2?

M.2 is a kind of SSD we sometimes call "gumstick". There is also a 2.5 inch SSD shaped like a hard drive. Both are essentially the same hardware in a different package if they are SATA. The transfer rates are the same. If the M.2 slot is operational, I would install a SATA M.2 in it which would then let you keep the hard drive and you could get by with a lower capacity SSD device at less cost. If the M.2 slot is deactivated, which I think is possible, then your only choice is a 2.5 inch SATA SSD placed where the hard drive is now located.
