Either 9.5mm or 7.0mm will work in your laptop. Windows 10 'should' work fine since you have Intel graphics.
Yes Western Digital is a good hdd.
Yes, you can install a 750Gb hdd.

500gb WD Black:
If money is a consideration-this is less but not quite as good as the WD Black above:

Hi,
You can install any 2.5" Sata drive. If you want extra performance you could choose an SSD which will increase everyday speed of the system.
Example:

Windows 10 should work on your system. Once installed let Windows perform all updates and find the drivers for your PC. Then go to device manager and see if any drivers are missing which you can search fo online or ask here in this forum. Anyway since you are installing a new drive you can try Windows 10 for free by downloading from Microsoft and see if all works well. If not, you can always install windows 7 again.
You will need to download the tool on different computer and run to create a bootable usb drive.

Let me know if you need further help,

Hi,
There are 2 different widths for 2.5" drives 6.7mm an 9.5mm . Your PC supports 9.5mm SSD which you can see on page 2 of service manual for your PC.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02623152
However most 6.7mm drives come with little adapter (plastic spacer) so they can be used in systems which require 9.5mm disks. So the 6,7 mm disks can always be used and the 9.5mm disks can be used in systems which accept them.
Hopd it helps,
David

> so which should i order ? 9.5 mm ?
Since you will need to remove the existing disk-drive, to make room for the new disk-drive, remove the existing disk-drive.
Look at the printed label on the top of the disk-drive, for the manufacturer-name, and the model-number.
Then, do a search on the manufacturer's web-site for the physical dimensions of your disk-drive.
Or, just take the disk-drive to the computer-store, and purchase a new disk-drive of the same dimensions.
BUT, before you remove the disk-drive, look on your computer for a program.
There should be a utility program to create a "System Recovery Set" -- a set of files that you can use to re-install the original version of Windows. The set will either be one USB memory-stick, or a few DVD-recordable disks.
Create that set, because you will need it, to install Windows onto the new disk-drive.
Note that this "Recovery Set" may require that the new disk-drive be at least 500 GB in capacity. So, yes, 750 GB will work, but a SSD device with a smaller capacity may be rejected.

@mdklassen
Hope all is well. As you can see in the question at the beginning the hard drive is no longer working and he wants to replace with HDD or SSD, From service manual we can see that it accepts 9.5mm drives (regular sata drives).
Also in the question at the beginning the Member states that originally there was a 500 GB drive which we can also see from the spec sheet for the PC.
Just to keep you up to date and so you do not have to read the discussion before spreading your knowledge:smileyvery-happy:
