How can you tell EXACTLY what he means when he wrote "not working" ? Are you clairvoyant? Have you had private communication with the author about the status of the disk-drive, or did you just jump to the assumption that the disk-drive is 100% "dead" ?
> he wants to replace with HDD or SSD.
Please read what I wrote: it's possible that any SSD must have at least the same capacity as the original (which may not be the CURRENT) disk-drive -- that is a restriction of some of those "System Recovery Sets".
Also, please give me credit for reminding him to create a "System Recovery Set" -- that is something that you did not suggest!

> Is it possible to create a system recovery set with non working hard drive?
Yes -- depending on your definition of "not working", and the definition being used by the author of this problem.
If Windows intermittently crashes/freezes during use of the disk-drive, that can be classified as "not working".
But, it still may be possible to run the utility to create a "System Recovery Set".
Yes -- if there is a hidden "System Recovery" partition on the disk-drive, that partition could be "healthy" enough to copy that partition (plus the other partitions) onto the replacement disk-drive. Then, boot into that partition from the replacement disk-drive, and reinstall Windows.
Please think before you post.

Please FOCUS on helping the author of the question, rather than "stalking" my participation on this forum.
P.S. Please define "funny". Do you mean funny like the "Pearls Before Swine" comic strip in the newspaper, or funny like strange as the "Bizarro" comic strip ? Then, please define "not working".

Either 9.5mm or 7.0mm will work in your laptop. Windows 10 'should' work fine since you have Intel graphics.
Yes Western Digital is a good hdd.
Yes, you can install a 750Gb hdd.

500gb WD Black:
If money is a consideration-this is less but not quite as good as the WD Black above:

@CherylG @SPanch
mdklassen and myself joke around with eachother quite a lot on the forum. A bit of healthy competition between two of the top ten monthly contributors. Always having respect for eachother and giving kudoes to eachother when one of us reaches the correct answer during our "battles". Sorry if this offended some other members on the forum.
I believe that we provide many answers to members and even in this thread the answer has been provided before the intervention of expert and moderator.
with highest regards,
David

No offense taken. I agree-all contributors are valuable on the forum since the main goal of the forum is to provide help to those with less tech knowledge. More contributors offering help= more happy campers.
A little "healthy" competition can be good for contributors-but not always for the OP. I try to avoid competing and "battles" as they often frustrate/confuse the OP and usually don't engage in such threads unless I am asked to.
