HP Spectre x360 - 13t-ae000 CTO

I have an older model Spectre X360 which had a swollen battery    Since it was not under warranty, I didn't expect HP to replace the battery and I went ahead and paid for the new battery myself.   All is good as far as that is concerned. The problem that I am facing is how to dispose of the swollen battery that I now have siting here on my desk.  I understand that defective or swollen batteries need special handling and community recycling centers will not take them.  The only option I found was a place that charges $95 just to dispose it.    I was wondering if HP had a program for disposing of its defective batteries (that are no longer under warranty).

I did find a page in the Support section that discussed swollen batteries.  It gave instructions as to what to do if under warranty and for those that are no longer under warranty it said to "Contact Us" and included a link.  A few clicks later I end up at a page asking me which paid help service I wanted to subscribe to in order to get assistance.  I'm not paying $99 to ask a simple question that should be covered in the main support section.   Hopefully someone here would be able to assist in answering my multi-part question:

Does HP have a program for disposal of post-warranty defective or swollen batteries?

- If so, where do I get information about it?

- If not, any suggestions as to where to dispose of the battery that's not cost prohibitive?  (Please give specific names of companies or organizations and not generic "your community recycling center" type answers.)

I recommend you call a local PC repair shop and ask them if they will take the battery, or where you can dispose of it at no charge if they don't.

No doubt they have to dispose of dead notebook batteries all of the time.

This is the only information I could find from HP:
