My battery has swollen so much that the case is separating. It also seems to have displaced the hard drive connection, as most times when I turn on the laptop it doesn't find a boot device. The laptop runs VERY hot, and I am concerned it is a fire hazard. HP says on its website to stop using laptops with swollen batteries, but their "battery utility" says that my battery is fine. How can it be fine when it is swollen so much the case is cracked open?

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,
I understand that your HP notebook battery is swollen and the unit is getting HOT. This sounds like hardware related issue with the Battery and in order to fix this issue, your computer needs to be serviced. As we have limited support boundaries in the support community as of now.
I would request you to reach out to our Support and our Support Engineers should be able to check the available service options in order to diagnose the computer physically. HP Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
Please feel free to contact us here anytime you need any further assistance. Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

Your link to contact support brings me to the HP login page, where I have already tried to obtain assistance on this issue. I was informed that the issue cannot be resolved due to the laptop being out of warranty. I was then referred to this forum for assistance. I have opened the laptop, and the battery is obviously swollen to almost twice its normal size. But, when I installed and ran the HP battery utility, I was informed that my battery was fine, and not covered under any recall. Unless I get some assistance on this issue, I will be contacting an attorney about starting a class action lawsuit, as this is a rampant problem with MANY owners of HP Envy 360 laptops. When you pay over $1,000 for a laptop, you don't expect that two years later the battery will deteriorate to the point that it splits the case, and cannot be rested on your lap due to how hot it gets.

Thank you for posting back.
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
