HP Spectre x360 - 15-ch011dx
Microsoft Windows 11

I had noticed the bottom of my HP Spectre x360 -15 had started to pop off the clips that keep it attached and I assumed (incorrectly) that when a recent BIOS upgrade had been done, they had not properly reattached  the back cover.   I took it in to get fixed and they came out in a panic that it was actually my battery that was 90% exploded and they would not even touch it for safety reasons.  In a panic because I need my computer, I took the risk and opened it myself (I guess I risked it exploding in my face - which was not 100% explained to me, I thought the store was just overreacting but I guess not).  Once I removed the bottom cover we saw that the battery had melted and expanded to a massive size.  At that point they removed the battery and can operate the laptop with only wired electrical power.  Obviously the battery needs to be replaced but can’t believe an HP battery should destroy a laptop (they said if I had waited a week it would have started a fire in my home).  I think this laptop cost almost $2K and I have had more problems with it than a $250 notebook that kids get free from school.  I have been buying all HP products (computer towers, screens, printers and laptops etc ) since I was in college in the 90’s.  The only computer that still works is the first one I bought in the 90’s…..every other one since seems to have a 1-3 year life span.

This current laptop was not only sold to me with the incorrect BIOS (about 5 behind that it couldn’t be fixed online it had to be taken into a computer shop), and multiple other issues.  The being a week away from having a fire in my house from this exploding battery is crazy.  I remember getting an alert about a battery problem but it didn’t cover my laptop.  Now I am concerned even if HP buys me a new battery as they should, has there been damage done to my laptop?  How do I know that I am every going to be safe having this HP Laptop product in my home?  I have multiple HP products in my home, do I need to increase my homeowners insurance?
