- Swollen battery, is it dangerous ?

Hi,
I noticed that the bottom left of my laptop case has opened up, and the bottom plastic clips of the case are even broken, I cannot close it anymore:
I opened to laptop to check what was going on and noticed that the battery had swollen very badly, like 3 times its normal size, it pushed so hard on the case that it broked it and opened it:
The laptop is no longer under warranty and the technical support was pretty much useless, they asked me 415€ to repair it, which I refused since it's very expensive...
I checked for a brand new battery and cover on the hp website to replace it by myself (I can do it) as a cheapest option but it looks like they are out of stock, hence my question: can I continue to use it like that or are there any safety issues ?
The laptop (dell) of a co-worker has already exploded and was on fire in the middle of the open-space at work, I wouldn't like my laptop to explode like this, especially if it is placed on my body while watching a movie. But I don't really know if there is a risk or not ?
Second question: Considering the expensive price of the Spectre laptop, I don't really have the money to buy a brand new one. If there is a safety issue, I just need a new battery and bottom cover, can I find a reseller somewhere that ships to France ?
Thanks for your help 😄
