Hi,
my laptop has i3-7020u processor with integrated HD graphics. I am wondering if I can upgrade the motherboard to 8th generation processor motherboards having discrete graphics. There are several compatible motherboards available in the user guide of hp 15-da0xxx series laptops. Is HP part number: L35242-006 motherboard (i5-8265u processor and Nvidia MX130 4gb discrete graphics) and the currently installed motherboard (HP part number: 20373-001) has same size/shape ?
The motherboard model : HP 84A6.
There is a local computer shop nearby my office. The seller is selling that new motherboard at cheap price (< 8000 INR) with 1 month warranty.
Will the motherboard (having part number: L35242-006) fit in the laptop ? I am looking for some light/casual gaming in the laptop.

Hi:
Yes, it will fit in the existing case, but you also need to be aware that you will have to purchase the 65W power supply that the models with the discrete graphics use, as well as a different fan and heatsink which are listed in chapter 3 of the service manual.
I do not see a L35242-006 motherboard listed in the service manual.
There is a L35242-xx1.
001 comes with no Windows product key in the BIOS and 601 comes with a W10 product key in the BIOS.
I recommend you carefully review the necessary parts needed to upgrade the motherboard that are listed in chapter 3 and make sure you have the part numbers correct.

Thanks for your response. I apologize for the typo in writing the part number of motherboard. Yes, it is either L35242-001 or L35242-601. Apart from 65 Watt power supply, compatible heatsink and fan, what else is required to upgrade (so that the new motherboard with discrete graphics card will work flawlessly) ?

You're very welcome.
You will also need DDR4-2400 memory if your notebook only came with DDR4-2133 MHz memory.
That should be it as far as I am aware.
I never upgraded a motherboard before and can only go by what the service manuals indicate.

Hi,
I upgraded the system board to i5-8250u processor(intel uhd graphics) and mx110 2gb GPU. I used another heatsink which takes care of GPU also. But, I am using the same old fan which came with previous system board (hp part number: L20474-001). I had DDR4-2666 memory modules. Do I need to change the fan (hp part number: L20473-001)also as mentioned in user guide of hp 15 series laptop ?
What is the difference between these 2 fans (hp part numbers : L20474-001 and L20473-001 ) ?

Unfortunately, I wouldn't know what the difference in the fans would be.
Google the part numbers and see if you can find any specs on the fans.
If they specs are different (voltage, RPM's etc.), I recommend you install the fan part number for the notebooks with the Nvidia graphics.
