Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?
HP Recommended
Pavilion 14-al
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Internal battery.

The battery will not properly charge.   I plug in the cable and it will charge briefly, then show “plugged in, not charging”.    I unplug it, put it back in, and again will charge for a few seconds before stopping.    This happens are varying % full levels.

I tried uninstalling / reinstalling the driver for the Compliant Control Method Battery – no impact.

I ran HP assistant diagnostics:
a) with it plugged in,  = “fail” error failure code  0LMP02-000000-.....
b) with it unplugged = “pass”

I ran a component diagnostics via HP downloaded program for the BATTERY:
a) with it plugged in = “fail” error failure code 0LMP02-8AM91J-.......
b) when unplugged  = “pass”

I ran a component diagnostics via HP downloaded program for the AC Adapter:
a) with it plugged in = “fail” but without giving an error code

Both of the failed codes make reference to:   Primary_TestresultString: BLOWN_FUSE

So, in summary,
- it will charge sometimes, but only briefly
- the blown fuse would be a red-herring as surely that is a yes/no question, not sometimes ?
- the battery test returned a pass and a fail depending on whether it was plugged in
- the ac adapter returned a fail without a code
- as it charges every time I plug it in, it wouldn't be the cable?  A problem with that would be more random?

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Hi @MrRobot, thank you for your detailed input.
To address your points -

a) No s/w or h/w changes have been made

b) I have not yet tried a different adapter as I need to source one.  However it will charge briefly ever time I plug it in, then stops.

c) Laptop is Pavilion 14-al

d) I have uninstalled the stated driver – it did not work.  However as the battery is internal and integral, I cannot remove it without taking the cover off, and I assume this will invalidate the warranty

e) Not able to do a hard reset as cannot remove the battery

f) Ran updates for various drivers, only a couple needed updating. No change.

g) As stated in my original post, I’ve performed a series of diagnostics with it on power (fail), and discharging (pass).     The fail code referred to  Primary_TestresultString: BLOWN_FUSE”      I’m not sure what fuse this refers to, but a blown fuse means it would not work at all, whereas this does some of the time.    Full details in the original post.

I will try to find another cable but there is a high degree of consistency with the current one, i.e. it works every time for a few seconds then stops...wiggling it etc makes no difference, therefore I suspect it is not the cable.
