Hi @Jññ,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
Here are the troubleshooting steps to help resolve the brightness key and sound cancellation key issues on your HP 14-inch Laptop PC 14-f1000 (2L1A9AV):
1. Update or Reinstall Keyboard and Display Drivers:
- Update Keyboard Driver:
- Open Device Manager (right-click the Start button, select Device Manager).
- Expand the Keyboards section.
- Right-click your keyboard and select Update driver.
- Update Display Driver:
- In Device Manager, expand the Display adapters section.
- Right-click your display adapter (e.g., Intel HD Graphics) and select Update driver.
2. Check for Windows Updates:
- Ensure your laptop is running the latest version of Windows:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates and install any available updates. This can fix driver compatibility issues that affect brightness and key functionality.
3. Reset Keyboard Settings in BIOS:
- Enter the BIOS to ensure the function keys (F1–F12) are set correctly:
- Turn off your laptop, and press F10 during startup to enter the BIOS.
- Look for the setting called Action Keys Mode or similar.
- Ensure it's set to Enabled, so you can use the function keys without pressing Fn.
- Save and exit BIOS, then check if the brightness keys are working.
4. Use HP Hotkey Support Software:
- Install or reinstall the HP Hotkey Support software, which controls function key behavior:
- Visit the HP support website for your laptop model.
- Download and install the HP Hotkey Support or any relevant keyboard drivers available.
5. Perform a Hard Reset:
- If none of the above steps work, perform a hard reset to reset hardware components:
- Shut down your laptop.
- Disconnect any external devices and unplug the charger.
- Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
- Reconnect the power and turn on the laptop.
After trying these steps, check if the brightness keys and the sound cancellation key functionality are restored.
