HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 15-ed0056nr

The power button on my Envy x360 does not work right away....there is a significant delay in turning on the machine. What is the solution for this?

If your HP Envy x360 laptop experiences a delay when pressing the power button, the issue could stem from hardware or software factors. Here are steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

 

1. Perform a power drain

1) Unplug the power cord from the PC & wall.

2) Disconnect the power cable from the AC adapter if it is a detachable part and keep it aside.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the AC adapter, then connect it to the wall and to the charging port on your PC.

5) Power on the PC and wait for the PC to boot into Windows now.

 

2. Check the Power Button for Physical Issues

  • Ensure the button is not stuck or damaged.
  • Clean around the power button gently to remove any debris.

 

3. Update BIOS and Drivers

  • Update the BIOS for your PC by clicking on the link.

 

Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.

Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.

Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

 

  • Install all the pending updates for the Windows operating system following the below steps and let me know if that resolves the issue.

 

Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the upgrade is available for your device and you want to proceed, download and install it.

 

4. Test Boot Behavior

  • Boot into the BIOS menu:
    1. Turn off the laptop.
    2. Press the power button and immediately start pressing the F10 key repeatedly to access the BIOS.
    3. Observe if the laptop powers on immediately when trying to access BIOS.
    4. If it does, the issue might be software-related.
    5. If there’s still a delay, it might be hardware-related.

5. Check Fast Startup Settings

  • Sometimes, the Fast Startup feature in Windows can cause delays.
    1. Open Control Panel > Power Options.
    2. Click on Choose what the power buttons do.
    3. Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
    4. Uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended).
    5. Save changes and restart the system.

 

6. Check the Battery or Charger

  • If the laptop is not receiving sufficient power, it might delay the startup.
    • Ensure you're using the original HP charger.
    • Check the battery health using the HP Support Assistant or by running the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.

 

7. Perform a System Test

  • Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics:
    1. Turn off the laptop.
    2. Press the power button and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly.
    3. Run a System Test or specifically a Component Test for the power button.
