HP Pavilion x2 Detachable
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I purchased two different third party chargers for my laptop as I was looking for a compact travel charger.  Neither of them work with my laptop, which utilizes a USB-C port for charging, even though the specs are identical to my original charger (which works).  Does HP prevent the use of third party chargers?

For reference, my laptop is an HP Pavilion x2 Detachable, P/N T6S89UA#ABA.

I found this long thread and also Pavilion X2 is mentioned there. Does not look too good to me:smileysad:

Greetings,

The reason why your third party charger isn't being read, it's because it's not an offical one from HP and can damage your battery.

Warning: Never use Third Party chargers.

The whole reason for universal standards like USB Power Delivery is to reduce the waste of having a zillion different adapters. Unfortunately not all equipment is built to the standards yet and there are different versions of the standards and the manufacturers are not always clear in their specification which version they implement.

To categorically say that 3rd party chargers are no good is plain wrong though. As long as everything is good quality and built to the same version of standard you should be good.

The problem today is that the standards are so new and information so scarce to which version the devices adhere to.

Even within HP not many seem to know what is the difference between e.g. 1HE08UT and X7W50AA, 65W adapters and with which HP models each is compatible. Easy to get sold the wrong one.

1HE08UT seems to be only for HP Pro X2 612 G2,  HP Elite X2 1012 G2 and HP Elitebook x360 1030 G2. I have not seen mentioned  anywhere for which products the X7W50AA meant for.

My guess is that the former is based on the 2012 standard and the latter is based on the V2 standard from 2016 but it's just a guess as nothing is mentioned in the datasheets:smileysad:
