I was happy to see this post, however there was no solution provided: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Spectre-x360-13-aw0404nz-wi...

When I try to do the bios-check, as you have recommended in the previous post, it doesn‘t provide me with the option to do a thunderbolt-check. Also from previous post I understand that the problem is not really a hardware but a software problem. Other solutions focus on updating the thunderbolt-software  or -bios. Others are to change the settings to connect with non-certified thunderbolt-devices (https://support.hp.com/hr-en/document/c03725328). Unfortunately all the solution don‘t work with my current version 13-ap0xxx (5kQ50EA#ABD).

Understanding that the problem have been posted a few times earlier and that the apple Thunderbolt Display is really a good and very-often-used Display, please help me in getting that connected. Thanks.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are unable to connect to your Apple thunderbolt display.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

Have you tried connecting a different display to the Thunderbolt port?

Meanwhile, I recommend you update the BIOS and the graphics driver from the below link and check if it helps.

BIOS: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp108501-109000/sp108734.exe

Graphics: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp102001-102500/sp102290.exe

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Sorry, it took some days, before I could test with the monitor. I executed both program but the problematic behaviour stays. I made a picture, which shows where it seems to stuck When i connect the cable, I get a question if I want to connect the usb-c monitor  for one (nur einmalig verbinden)...

thanks for suggestion to contact my local support. Actually this is not a good way forward. I had a premium support and one of the first contacts was very nice. When a colleage took over, this changed totally. He didnt feel competent nor secure. On top he told me, this is not valid problem as I could  connect already via Hdmi to my smaller monitor. If it would not work, I should contact Apple, it would be on the apple side.

As I already discussed the solution with the 1st hotline employee,  and he agrreed the problem would be related to the HP bios as described in other posts here, i was totally frustrated and asked to talk to the team lead. Everything in this direction was denied, so that I’m sitting here with a nice Hp premium thunderbolt-notebook and a nice 27” thunderbolt-display which cannot be used as normal people would think.

And as I was an Apple user before and just bought an Ipad pro 12.9 2020 leaving the the 1.500 eur-hp-laptop in the corner, having learned my hp-experience.
