I have a Thunderbolt Dock 120W G2, This docking station generates a lot of noise by a Fan that is always running. I see many complains of this in the various forums on the internet, but never a reaction from HP. Why not ??
This is a problem for many users, and they will never buy (such) an HP dock again. When I start the laptop, after a few seconds the fan of the docking station starts to run at full speed, and never stops.. only after some seconds after I shut of the laptop. To my opinion the problem is that the fan runs always on full speed, and never stops. Is there not a posibillity to make an adaption in the firmware (fan on lower speed) ??

Once in a while, the fan goes after a time to a lower speed, and stays on this lower speed. From that moment the noise is gone ! To my opinion that means, this problem can be solved by a firmware update.... HP is this possible?????

I have the same issue. It is dock problem, because I have used it with Apple MAC and it spins everytime, even mac is on standby or shut down. It stops maybe for couple minutes, but then kicks in again.
HP please release fw to stop the fan. Another solution could be just open the dock and unplug the fan... if it breaks no problem, because it is useless at the moment.

hi there,
i have the same Dock however not thunderbolt and have never observed such issue, it's super quiet and hardly any noise coming out of it.
However i have another issue with night light > https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Windows-10-s-Night-Light-not-w...
may i ask if you guys are experiencing the same so when on HDMI on external screen night light does not work? does it happen on the thunderbolt as well?
cheers,
Gabrio

Following an earlier post from this forum, I have disassembled mine (quite easy - kudos for HP!) and unplugged the fan.
I am working a lot in the early mornings and the fan noise is very very annoying in a silent environment.
I have the dual-cable 230w version and the dock is not running high temp - I will try w/ some GPU intensive task and let y'all know how it goes.
Also, the cable can be replaced, both ends are looks the same - you don't have to throw the whole thing away for a faulty cable! Awesome!
