The touch pad is basically useless or the whole PC is useless. The mouse pad and mouse buttons both are so irradic that it is impossible to do anything productive. If I click an icon, it drags it all over the screen. If I pick a blank area of the desk top, it tries to create a window or box in which to select things. Using the mouse buttons my take ten tries to get an item picked. Then it opens and closes the window. If I try to shut it down. I click the icon but it pops open and closes again before I can pick restart or shut down. I have updated the bios. I have tried everything I know to uninstall and delete anything to do with Sympatic software but the mouse pad keeps working. I have tried updating the drivers to no avail. I ven replaced tje whole top of the pc with a different mouse pad to no avail. Is it possible to make it work correctly? This PC isn't 2 years old and basically can't be used. I have another that came with Windows Vista and the mouse pad works fine yet.

Hi @Den942,
Welcome to the HP Forums! 🙂
I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.
As I understand that the touchpad and buttons are erratic and do not respond correctly.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help you with your HP Notebook - 15-f272wm (ENERGY STAR).
I did check the product specification it shows that the notebook was shipped with Win 10 and currently you are using Win 7.
I did try to find the drivers for your notebook but could find any drivers for Win 7 as you downgraded the operating system.
This could be a hardware or software issue and to isolate the issue use HP PC Diagnostics UEFI and run the test on the touchpad.
However, you can try steps mention in this document to troubleshoot the issue.
If the issue persists I suggest you get back to the original operating system which came along with the notebook.
Keep me posted.
Have a great day! 🙂

It has Windows 10 on it now not Windows 7. It has not been downgraded to W7. I' m thinking about doing that because the mouse pad hardware is not the problem. I replaced the whole top of the pc with a new mouse pad included and nothing changed.

Greetings @Den942, I am the @Chimney_83. It looks like you were interacting with @MKazi, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.
Thanks for the reply and letting me know that your computer is running on Windows 10 and not 7 as mentioned in your original post.
Have you a touchpad test on your computer a suggested? If not please run the touchpad test on your computer.
If the test fails, please contact our phone support for the service options or take the computer to any authorized service center to have it checked.
If the touchpad test passes, restart your computer and reduce the sensitivity of the touchpad by following the procedure mentioned under "Adjusting TouchPad or ClickPad pointing sensitivities" section of this HP Article.
Also, recommend you try the steps suggested in this interactive guided troubleshooter.
Keep me posted. Good Luck.

I have replaced the whole top including mouse pad with no change. I decreased sensitivity, I turned off all flick and two finger options. Nothing has helped. It passes the touch pad test as requested. But it does not function good enough to use on a regular basis, unless you want to drag every icon picked all over the screen. Or, create a "pick" window constantly.
It has also been reset to factory settings and all HP updates installed with no improvement.

Thanks for the reply and trying the suggested steps, as all the steps are exhausted including recovery and driver updates, recommend you have it checked at a service center or contact our phone support for the service options available.
