Erico,

While I completely understand with your statement, but out of curiosity I am just trying to figure out what is causing this. As of now I think it might be a software/OS issue too. Posting the queries again, please share your valuable opinion about them-

1. I removed the Synaptics driver twice and have tried to use the touchpad without it but the sensitivity of the cursor without the drivers is pathetic. It becomes useless without the drivers. If a mouse is inserted in, with or without the Synaptics drivers then it performs normally. Same was the condition of the cursor when I was taking those tests that you have asked for, results in next point, is this normal?

2. The version of the diagnostics uefi is out of date, hope that's okay-

Everything seems okay?

Why is the status of the fan saying not supported? It works fine though

3. Uninstalled the Synaptics driver again, kept on using the mouse and tested the touchpad whether it works or not (it was next to impossible to use the touchpad without the Synaptics driver due to sensitivity issues with the cursor) Anyways it froze once. The mouse kept on working as usual. A few minutes later Windows update downloaded the same version for the Synaptics driver which was installed earlier and which is present on HP's website

After the restart the cursor was like hanging a lot, clicked on reset button here and it was back to normal

Sometimes it works for like 10 minutes after the reset button is clicked, sometimes for like 5 minutes. Sometimes the reset button is needed to be clicked twice to force it to work normally. The reset button makes the touchpad work fine, even though for a few minutes, do you still think it is a hardware issue?

4. Which is the wire of the touchpad? https://imgur.com/a/oSWrJd7 I am planning to remove and then reinsert it.

Thanks

As far as I learned, battery swelling is fairly common in HP laptops. When it occurs, the battery expands several times over its original size and it starts to squeeze other internal components. I read on internet that touchpad starting to fail is one of the most common things in such case. I could not see your battery in the picture you posted. Make sure it is not swelled up. Can't really give any more suggestions, but I am just another customer.

That is quite strange. Although as long as the notebook remains cool and there are no shutdowns because of heat, I wouldn't be concerned at all.

The observation by the other member about possibility of damage to touchpad in the case of a swelling battery is accurate.

I do not recall you mentioning that being the case with your notebook so I can't say with ny certainty that is is appropriate in this case/.

Hi Nika,

Battery is not at all swollen. Like I have mentioned in the first post, there was a Windows update. Then I opened up the laptop to clean it up and then the touchpad issue started.

Can you share the thread or an article where this is mentioned? The battery is located so far from the touchpad, just out of curiosity how can it squeeze the touchpad?

Thanks

Hi Erico,

Battery is not at all swollen. Like I have mentioned in the first post, there was a Windows update. Then I opened up the laptop to clean it up and then the touchpad issue started. The battery is located so far from the touchpad, just out of curiosity how can it squeeze or damage the touchpad?

And as I have posted in the last post, when the reset button is clicked in the touchpad settings it becomes normal, for how many minutes it cannot be predicted. So, keeping in mind this and the last post do you think this is a hardware issue? I just don't want to open the laptop again just to remove and reinsert the touchpad cable, if a loose cable was causing it then it wouldn't have started to work normally after clicking the reset button anyways.

If no then do you recommend restoring the laptop to an earlier restore point, like the one auto created by the system before the last Windows update? Or are you in favor of resetting the laptop by keeping all the files etc.? Let's just say that the Windows update caused this then even after the reset or system restore the Windows will be auto updated again, wouldn't it again cause the similar issue?

About the fan and temperature it is fine. I removed the fan from the mobo and cleaned it thoroughly using an air blower at the lowest setting. I know that this cannot cause this but still asking to clear the doubt, can this cause the diagnostic software to say that the status of the fan is not supported somehow?

Thanks

Took out the battery and switched on the laptop on direct power supply, same touchpad issue started after a few minutes.
