Common problems for Battery

Microsoft Windows 11

Touchpad of my notebook frequently stops working. When I go to device manager, it shows I2C HID device error which says 'this device cannot be started'. I've tried uninstalling the driver and then restarting my laptop. Though it solves the problem, it is only a temporary relief.

Secondly I have updated everything possible ranging from Windows to BIOS but the problem keeps repeating itself frequently. Any solution in sight or should I look to buy new laptop ?

Is your laptop still in the one year factory warranty active period?

Have you used the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI utility to test the touchpad?

From a laptop off state, press the power button and immediately tap the F2 key.

At the Diagnostics dialogue that opens, go to component tests.

Test the touchpad/mouse.

Personally, I would not ditch a laptop because the touchpad failed. I would use a wireless or wired mouse as a workaround replacement.

Warranty expired just 4 days ago !

It is working fine as of now. Tests were OK. But the problem occurs spontaneously. It is very unpredictable. And that's when Device manager shows I2C HID Device Error saying that "This device cannot be started (Error 10)". I just uninstall the driver and restart my laptop. It again works fine for sometime before recurrence happens.

I took a look in the manual and see that the touchpad can be replaced as a separate item.
