spectre x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi everyone, I just received my spectre x380 model 13-4110dx. After spending months researching laptops I settled on the spectre and had it shipped all the way from the US to little Bangladesh here. Needless to say, issues popped up as soon as I turned on the thing, so here goes:

TOUCHPAD:
This is the big one. I am used to having the page move down with my fingers while two-finger scrolling, but the scrolling direction is reversed by default with coasting enabled. However, when turned off reverse scrolling and coasting in the synaptics settings it seems to work on some applications and not anothers. I tried resetting the computer and reinstalling the driver software AND I also tried installing the latest drivers from the synaptics website. Nothing's working so far

HEAT:
The bottom tends to run very hot even with normal web browsing, so much so that I can't place the thing on my lap for very long. I setup the fan to run always from the BIOS, but its still the same. At this temperatures I'm not sure how long the hardware is going to hold out

Sorry for the long post, I'm really hoping you guys can help me figure things out

After a lot of frustrations, for the last few weeks my touchpad's been behaving satisfactorily. Here's what I did, maybe this will help someone else here who's having the same problem:

  • Make sure the driver is updated to 192.0.12.107
  • Go to Device Manager, open Mouse Properties and click on 'Update device driver'
  • In the wizard that opens click on 'Browse my computer for driver software'
  • Then select 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'
  • In the next window, uncheck 'Show list of compatible hardware', and search for and select 'Synaptics SMBus Clickpad'
  • Install and restart the computer

Windows installs Synaptics SMBus Touchpad driver by default, this leads to the scrolling issues I was experiencing. The clickpad driver works much better. I don't know how the two drivers are different, but it worked for me

Hello @rubayatrahman88,

Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

I have come across your post and want to help you with the touchpad and heating issues on your HP Spectre x360 - 13-4110dx. The touchpad issue is most likely driver related, but it could be related to the individual apps as well.

Please start with a hard reset. After that, follow this touchpad use document for more information:

HP Notebook PCs - Using the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 10)

For the over-heating issue, it is recommended that you do not place the notebook directly on your lap as it blocks the air vents and traps hot air in the computer.

Check out this document for tips on protecting your notebook:

HP - Tips for Using, Carrying and Protecting your HP Notebook PC

If there is still an issue, use the steps from these documents to help reduce the heat inside the notebook:

I look forward to the results! If this information is useful, click the thumbs up.

Windows Update just installed a new touchpad driver v19.0.12.107, which seems to fix the reverse scrolling issue. However the touchpad response is still erratic at times and does not behave the same across native and non-native applications. I also own a Pavilion 14 and the touchpad on that notebook is actually better than the one on the Spectre. I can also use the Pavillion for hours at a time on my lap without any heating issues. Now I'm just waiting a software update to fix my woes. Overall I'm quite disappointed with this machine.

Hi there,

FlashRam1714 is out of office and I have been entrusted to continue working with you toward a resolution.

Have you tried to connect an external mouse and see if it happens also?

Have you tried to see if it happens in Safe Mode?

Have you done any Windows Updates?

Have you tried using the HP Support Assistant?

Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the driver on your Notebook? If not, please follow the steps below.

  • Type in Search, "Device Manager",
  • Click On Device Manager,
  • Expand Mice and other pointing devices,
  • Right Click on the TouchPad,
  • Click on Uninstall,
  • Restart the Notebook twice,
  • Reinstall the TouchPad Adapter.

Have you tried to Update the TouchPad drivers manually? If not, please follow the steps below.

  • Type in Search, "Device Manager",
  • Click On Device Manager,
  • Expand Mice and other pointing devices,
  • Right Click on the TouchPad,
  • Click on Update Driver Software,
  • Restart your Notebook.

Have you tried to test the Hardware to see if it passes the component testing?

If not, please remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues, and run the Component Test on the Touchpad.

When it comes to overheating, Resetting the BIOS defaults, then updating your Notebook BIOS has been the solution for some, stopping apps from starting when the Notebook powers on for others. Some people have found that the Accepted Solution was simply doing another Windows Update.

Other steps that may help are under:

Increasing the efficiency of the notebook to reduce heat

Selecting "power save" settings to shut off your computer when it is not in use

Keeping notebook air vents clear and clean: This is very important to make sure you do regularly.

You can also try to use a lower resolution.

Please try these steps and let me know the outcome.

I look forward to hearing your reply!

Have a great day! 🙂

You could just get the vacuum cooler if you don't want to build the pad. Good luck.
