There are a few other threads reporting issues with the trackpad clicking. I finally figured this out and it has nothing to do with software. The build quality of the chassis is poor, so when your left hand rests on the laptop next to the trackpad (i.e. where it is supposed to rest), it can click the trackpad button. Even if you aren't even touching the pad, the button can be clicked down.
Unfortunately, this can make it look like the problem has just "gone away" because it only happens when you press on it in a specific location.
Steps to reproduce:
1) place 2 fingers on the laptop 2cm down and 1cm left of the top left corner of the trackpad
2) press firmly.
3) the trackpad button will click even though you aren't touching the trackpad.
To fix the problem, don't rest your hand next to the trackpad, or at least when you notice the problem with clicking, just lift your left hand. This is obviously not a very good workaround and something needs to be done.
here's an example of this type of issue
