My hp laptop is HP envy model 13-ah0001na
my trackpad mouse cursor is freezing once a day, I'm having to turn laptop off and on to resolve. How to fix?
I bought an external mouse that I can plug into usb port which could help if this happens. It is not a trackpad hardware issue. I read that holding fn key and one of the F keys can resolve and unfreeze mouse cursor when it happens. Which f key is the trackpad for my laptop model number.
pLEASE help.

Hi @ghostsforglory,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing occasional trackpad freezing on your HP Envy 13-ah0001na laptop. Here are some steps and tips to help resolve this issue:
1. Update Drivers
- Update Trackpad Driver:
- Go to the HP Support website: HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads.
- Enter your laptop model (Envy 13-ah0001na).
- Download and install the latest drivers for the touchpad (Synaptics or Elan depending on your model).
2. Adjust Power Settings
- Disable Power Saving for Trackpad:
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Mice and other pointing devices, right-click on your trackpad device, and select Properties.
- Go to the Power Management tab and uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
3. Check for Software Conflicts
- Check Startup Programs:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Go to the Startup tab and disable any unnecessary startup programs that could be conflicting with the trackpad.
4. Adjust Trackpad Settings
- Adjust Sensitivity and PalmCheck:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
- Adjust sensitivity settings and disable PalmCheck if enabled.
5. Test with External Mouse
- Use External Mouse:
- If the trackpad freezes, test if the external USB mouse works without issues. This can help determine if the problem is with the trackpad itself or software-related.
6. Keyboard Shortcut for Unfreezing Trackpad
- Fn Key + F Key:
- Different HP models have different function keys associated with enabling/disabling the trackpad.
- Typically, it's Fn + F9 or Fn + F11 that toggles the trackpad on/off. Try pressing Fn + F9 or Fn + F11 when the trackpad freezes to see if it unfreezes.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
