ENVY x360 15-AQ101NA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I've just purchased a new ENVY x360 15 Laptop in the UK, however it has come with a US keyboard layout, not a UK one, I think this must be a manufacturing error as this model afaik is only available in the UK.

Can someone confirm this model should indeed come with a UK keyboard layout?

For information here is what a UK layout should look like:

Note the shape of the Enter key and position of \ and /, in comparison to a US layout.

I'm about to send it back for refund unless I can be sure this model is available with a UK keyboard

Hi @xer0w

Welcome to the HP Forums!

It is a great way to engage, post questions and find resolutions by working with specialists in the HP community.

I reviewed your post and I understand that the keyboard layout on your computer is US instead of the UK.

I’d love to help!

I checked the product specification of your computer and it is mentioned Full-size island-style backlit keyboard with numeric keypad. However, it doesn’t confirm whether it is the UK or US layout.

I also checked the service guide of your computer and even there the keyboard layout information is not available.

I recommend you to contact phone support and check as the keyboard layout information is not available on the HP website or in the service manual.

Refer to the link below for service guide.

Thanks for the reply, but I have contacted telephone support and the recommendation is to return for a refund, although no one can tell me if this model is available with a UK keyboard layout, so even if I return for a replacement I've no idea if the new one will also have the same problem.

I've had many laptops and PC's over the years, not once have I had a keyboard layout issue like this with something purchased from an official store in the UK. With no apparent answer as to why, this is a fundamental hardware issue for fast typing, I really shouldn’t have to adjust to an unfamiliar keyboard layout, it’s not like I’ve purchased directly from China (although I‘m starting to think I may as well have)

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP.

They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number.

Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact.

Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forum

Hi,

I have received a replacement laptop direct from HP, but unfortunately it also has a US keyboard layout.

It looks like HP are now using US keyboard Layouts for the UK and just adding a £ pound symbol on the number row.

This is most annoying for me as I do quite a bit of work with powershell & Windows CLI, and having the '\' on the bottom right is deal breaker for me, I also keep hitting the shift key as enter.

As I'm in need of a laptop, I’ll have to keep this one, but will be replacing it at the earliest opportunity.

Here’s a picture of the keyboard for reference.

I am having the same issue with keyboards. All the new HP laptops in PCWorld and Ebuyer etc have US keyboards with £ on the 3, but this is not acceptable for me or my customers. We need the \ on the left and a large Enter key, otherwise we might as well switch to Dell. Can someone from HP please explain what is happening?

Couldn’t agree more SteveInEngland, as I said it’s a deal breaker for me to (and in fact everyone I've talked to about it at work and with clients).
I have indeed now switched to a Dell as HP don’t offer a solution.

At the moment it seems like we're the only ones kicking up a fuss. I am amazed that they are getting away with it at PCWorld etc. Surely the British press and tech magazines should have picked up on this because it's such a huge problem. Is there a conspiracy of silence?? Maybe the press have been bought off because there's simply NOTHING about it.

This is unreal, I had to trawl google for an hour to find this thread. Most hits on google are average users not knowing how to choose the correct keyboard settings in the OS. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't find this keyboard layout on any of the webpages detailing UK keyboard standards until I came across this page;

HP are literally printing the UK symbols onto a physical US keyboard! Unbelievable. 13/p a minute to speak to support on the phone? Goodbye HP, never again.

Agreed, and you still can’t spec a UK layout keyboard for their new laptops either.
I now have a Dell.
