HP Recommended

Hello,

I’m experiencing an issue with USB-C charging on my HP laptop and would appreciate some guidance.

When I connect a USB-C charger directly to the laptop, the laptop does not charge.
However, when I connect the same charger to a docking station, and then connect the dock to the laptop via USB-C, the laptop does charge normally.

This makes me think that:

  • The USB-C port itself is physically working

  • The charger is working

  • Possibly the docking station uses a driver or firmware that enables USB-C Power Delivery, while the laptop itself is missing a required driver, firmware update, or BIOS setting

Things I’ve already considered / checked:

  • Different USB-C chargers and cables

  • Power source is sufficient

  • Charging works consistently through the dock only

My questions:

  1. Is USB-C charging on this laptop dependent on a specific driver, firmware, or BIOS setting?

  2. Is it possible that USB-C Power Delivery is only enabled through the docking station?

  3. Are there known issues with USB-C charging directly on this model?

Any help or clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
