HP EliteBook 860 16 inch G9 Notebook PC (6B4Z7AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi there,

I am having issues with the USB ports of my EliteBook 860 G9 Notebook. During regular operation, my notebook is connected to a HP Thunderbolt Dock 120W G4. All USB devices connected to the docking station are fully functional, meaning the connection via the USB-C Thunderbolt Dock seems to be perfectly fine.

Once I am disconnecting the notebook from the docking station and trying to use one of the native "notebook USB" connectors, no device which is plugged in is being recognised. The snapshot below shows what I can see in the Device Manager.

So far I tried connecting/disconnecting devices and rebooting the notebook, of course. Moreover I deactivated the checkbox "Device can be Deactivated to Save Power" in the Power Management Settings of each USB-Root-Hub (which is surprisingly re-activated after rebooting).

I would appreciate any help, hint or suggestion to solve this issue.

Thanks in advance and best regards

Patrick

After a visit from HP Service Partner, it turned out it is a hardware issue. Mainboard has been exchanged, USB ports are working now perfectly fine.

Issue can be closed.

Best regards

The issue still persists. Meanwhile I tried checking some BIOS settings but also here no success. The only items I found which might be related to USB port settings are shown below.

Changing them did not have impact on the described error. Any hints or suggestions are highly appreciated.

Thanks and best regards

Shut down the laptop,

unplug all the inserted devices,

press and hold the power button for 35 seconds,

and then turn on the laptop

this resolved the problem with the HP Elitebook 840

@Jatzibe thanks for sharing your experience. But as said previously, in my case a hardware change of the mainboard was already performed by an HP service Partner and this fixed the issue. But maybe for users searching for similar issues/devices, your response could be indeed helpful.

Thanks again and best regards
