Hi @NorbertWoj,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're facing with the USB ports on your HP Pavilion Gaming 15 could be related to several factors. Here are some steps and considerations to help you troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.

Check Device Manager

Firstly, check the Device Manager to see if there are any errors or warnings related to the USB ports:

Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.

Look for Universal Serial Bus controllers and expand the list.

Check if any of the USB controllers or hubs have a yellow exclamation mark or error symbol next to them.

  • If you see any errors, right-click on the affected device and choose Update driver. Follow the prompts to update the driver software.

Restart Your Computer

Sometimes a simple restart can resolve temporary issues with hardware, including USB ports.

  1. Save your work and restart your computer.
  2. Check if the USB ports start functioning after the restart.

Check Power Management Settings

Windows may be turning off the USB controllers to save power, which can sometimes cause issues with connectivity.

  1. In the Device Manager, right-click on each USB Root Hub and select Properties.
  2. Go to the Power Management tab.
  3. Uncheck the option that says Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
  4. Click OK and repeat for all USB Root Hubs listed under Universal Serial Bus controllers.

Update System Firmware (BIOS)

Since you mentioned an error related to "System Firmware," updating your BIOS might help resolve underlying compatibility issues or bugs.

  1. Visit the HP support website specific to your model.
  2. Go to the drivers and downloads section.
  3. Look for BIOS updates available for your laptop model and download the latest version.
  4. Follow the instructions provided by HP to update your BIOS. Be cautious during this process as updating BIOS incorrectly can cause permanent damage to your computer.

Run Windows Troubleshooter

Windows includes a built-in troubleshooter that can help diagnose and potentially fix problems with hardware devices, including USB ports.

  1. Go to Settings (Windows key + I) > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  2. Select Hardware and Devices and run the troubleshooter.

Check for Physical Damage or Debris

Inspect the USB ports themselves for any physical damage or debris that might be obstructing proper connection. Ensure there is no lint, dust, or bent pins inside the port.

Try External Power Source

If you are using USB devices that require substantial power, such as external hard drives, try connecting them through a powered USB hub or directly to a wall adapter.

Reinstall USB Controllers

If none of the above steps work, you can try reinstalling the USB controllers:

  1. In the Device Manager, right-click on each USB Root Hub and select Uninstall device.
  2. After uninstalling, restart your computer.
  3. Windows will automatically reinstall the USB controllers.

By systematically going through these steps, you should be able to diagnose and resolve the issue with your HP Pavilion Gaming 15 USB ports.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
