HP Envy 17
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Recently I tried plugging in my mouse wireless receiver to the empty usb port so I could charge it, but it didn't work. I ended up trying multiple devices in the same port and nothing worked nor charged. I have tried disabling it and re-installing the driver, but beyond that I don't know what else to do. I would appreciate help.

You have some kind of physical issue with the bad port. As I said it is part of the motherboard and cannot be repaired. You can continue to use the laptop short a USB port. I might put some kind of a blank into the dead port. You don't need 20 of them but this is the idea:

Sorry the news is not good but you might mark as solution so others with the same issue can better find this information on how to diagnose.

Please provide the full model number and identify what port it is on the laptop...left/right front/rear. If the port is bad if you are lucky it is on a daughterboard that is easily replaced with a cheap part. If you are not lucky it is soldered to the motherboard directly and cannot be repaired.

Thanks for the quick reply. Product number is K2Z69AV. It is the front left USB port. Closest to me on the left side. The unused usb port is the broken port. The unused usb port is the broken port.

That one goes directly to the motherboard. Try UEFI diagnostics. Tap esc as you power up then F2 for diagnostics then component tests and usb ports. It will ask you to put a usb device in each port and will read out if there is a hardware issue. Please post results back here.

I ran the other ports and it said they passed.

I figured this might be the problem. Thanks for all your help.

Is this something an expert can fix? Can it be replaced if I take it to MicroCenter or something?

HP Recommended

With enough money anything can be fixed. It can be fixed by replacing the motherboard. No other way. The cost will approach the price of a new laptop.

Sounds good. Thank again for the help.
